As a member of Bank of America, I utilize their online banking Bill pay system which allows customers to pay their bills online.

As a retired and disabled person, I schedule all my payments on or after the 3rd of each month. I have been scheduling payments to a municipal court in New Jersey for several months with out incident.

On August 3rd, I noticed that I had incurred at fee of 35 dollars for insufficient funds. When I talked to the bank personnel, they realized that a check was allowed to cleared one day before my funds had hit my account. They told me that I should not have a problem in getting my 35 dollars refunded back to me.

But when I called the Online Bill pay system they were not nice at all and did not want to refund me back the 35 dollars for a check that they let clear on the 2nd instead of the 3rd.

I requested to speak with the customer representative’s supervisor to try to resolve this issue. The representative was hesitant and went back and forth with me on the issue. I told her that your system has a glitch in it and that it needs to be corrected. I told her that I had a background in computer science and understand systems very well.

She finally let me speak to her supervisor about the issue and they waived my fee but they told me that I could not write another online check to the municipal court using bill pay again. I just thought that was so odd being that I had been sending off payments through their system for months now.

They really treated me unfairly and acted like I was the one that caused the problem. I went back to the local Bank of America and told them what I had to go through with the representative of the Bank of America online service. I told them that I wasn’t allowed to write another check to the municipal court. The local representative assured me to continue to make my check out to the municipal court. And told me that Bank of America’s online banking service had no right to tell me that. So, I will continue to make my payments online and I will keep the Unheard Voices community informed if any further discrimination or harassment occurs.
