James McNair’s Children Awarded $10 Million
The children of comedian James McNair, who was killed in a crash that injured fellow comic Tracy Morgan, have reached a $10 million out-of-court-settlement.
The children of comedian James McNair, who was killed in a NJ highway crash that injured fellow comic Tracy Morgan, have reached a $10 million out-of-court-settlement with Wal-Mart Stores Inc, according to court documents.
The amount was disclosed in documents filed in New York’s Westchester County, where McNair lived until the June 7 accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.
James McNair died when a Wal-Mart truck hit a van carrying him, Morgan and others.
Morgan’s lawyer says the “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” star suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the accident.
The McNair family lawyer announced a settlement in January, but the amount was said to be confidential. However, he disclosed the $10 million figure in court papers supporting his request for nearly $3 million in legal fees.
“We cannot discuss the terms and conditions of the settlement, but we are glad to have reached an agreement,” a spokesperson for Walmart told E!. “We deeply regret the loss of Mr. McNair as a result of the accident. Walmart worked closely with his family to ensure their wellbeing. Walmart will continue to work to conclude all of the remaining issues and we’re committed to doing what’s right.”
