Singer Mylezia is young, in charge, & on her way to the top
Singer/Songwriter Mylezia is young and in charge.
Mylezia King is only 19 years old but she’s already making a noise in a field she is destined for. She has already opened for top-notch acts like K. Michelle, worked with Grammy award winning producers, and at her tender age, runs a production company. And not to mention her voice is impressive.
Who is Mylezia?
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, the 19-year-old was recently nominated at the 2014 Philly Hip-Hop Awards for Best New R&B/Pop Artist. King who is often referred to as “Mylee” or “My Way” sang all of her life with her first solo performance coming in church when she sang “I Love You Lord” in which she later admitted ‘she was terrified’.
She has currently released five singles including the song “Girl’s Night Out” that she co-wrote with producer Chuck Finney which can be heard and purchased on Itunes. While she has pinned another singles entitled “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”, “Bittersweet”, and “Lonely Girl” in the past. King, who studied piano and violin in school, is currently working on her demo project. And she has songs already completed called “Never Alone’, “Anxious”, “Dying to Be Perfect”, and “Forever Love” that’s expected to be released sometime soon.
In addition, the 2014 Concord High School graduate shared the same bill as VH1 star and singer K. Michelle, Mack Wilds, and Lee Mazin. Mylezia has worked with some of the industry’s best producers such as Grammy award-winning Ray Hamilton, who produced Joe, R. Kelly, and Michael Jackson; and The Dezperawdos, who produced the architect of the “New Jack Swing” era of the late 1980s Teddy Riley (former member of Guy, Blackstreet) and Dru Hill. Also, Ben Ford, Rick Williams, PC Beats, Jaelin Savage, Keith Johnson, and the above-mentioned Chuck Finney were other producers that King has shared the studio with.
Lastly, the Delaware native who graduated high school with honors and subsequently launched her own production company called Myleez Productions, Ms. King is the CEO who’s company emphasis is to sign singers and songwriters.
Mylezia is definitely an artist I believe you’ll hear in the future. She has her hands in a lot of things and already making strides.

UV: When did you fall in love with music?
Mylezia: I have loved music since I was a little girl. Music was a part of my life growing up. My mother and father were performers.
UV: How long have you been creating and performing music?
Mylezia: It will be three years on August 29, 2015.
UV: How would you describe your music and sound?
Mylezia: I love real musicians and heavy background vocal sin my music, Putting my sound in a box is difficult because I love rnb, pop and rock. I have written more RnB Music because of the producers I have been blessed to work with thus far. However the first song I ever wrote was POP. When I hear instruments I get an immediate reaction.
UV: What artists have the greatest musical influences on you and your music?
Mylezia: Alicia Keys and Missy Elliott. Every day I use to look myself in the mirror and say I was going to be the next Alicia Keys. I love her. I admire Missy because of her versatility. She is an amazing entertainer but her Producer’s ear is on point. I love Aaliyah because of her originality and how secure she was being herself.
UV: What do you think your greatest challenge has been as an indie artist?
Mylezia: Building a solid team. For many years it was me and my mother. My cousin Will Simmons came on board and then we were blessed to begin building with others. It takes sacrifice and 1000% dedication. Many think they are built for this until you have to sacrifice time and money. People want to see a return today. This industry doesn’t work like that. Anybody can join a team with an artist that has a movement, buzz and a machine behind them. It takes a special team of people to build from ground up and never complain. I have that now but I had to weed out the real from the fake. Jackie King, Will Simmons, Court Digga, Jorge Perez, Jontae Willingham, Jodi Lewis, The Dezperawdos, Keith Johnson, Charles Finney, Farees, Chad Roper, Sonny, SK and Miranda Lane have made sacrifices and have never expected anything in return. I have an amazing foundation now.

UV: How in tune are you with your fans?
Mylezia: I know where my fans are from and I stay connected to them every day. Many DM me and give me feedback, some email me. I always respond. I am new and I don’t have millions but I remember thr first person that every followed me on twitter and told me he loved my music. His name is Tyler. I also love to pop up at their high schools and surprise them.
UV: Has anyone ever given you negative feedback on your music, if so how did you react to it?
Mylezia: Yes, my fans will tell me if they feel that my music is headed down the wrong direction. I have gone back into the studio and made changes. I have also received feedback from a few label executives that said they didn’t feel a certain song was good for my Brand. I listen to all feedback. One thing I know about music is “It always changes”. Somethings you record are for now, somethings are for later and something may be for me to place with someone else.
UV: Tell us about your company Myleez Production’s?
Mylezia: I have teamed up with local writers and producers to give them a chance to make some major placements with established artists. I formed this production team because I am around so many amazing artists that have never been where I have been. I can’t take everyone with me but I can get their music in the hands of people that can change their life. Delaware is an untapped marker and our buzz is growing.
UV: How important and how difficult is it to support your career with your own funding?
Mylezia: Vital. I don’t have label support. My investor is my mom. She puts 95% of her earning back into my career. She has sacrificed everything to push me to the next level financially.
UV: To date, what has been your best performance?
Mylezia: I opened up for KMichelle in 2014 and that was the first time I every performed outside of the Church. When was it, where was it and why is it your best performance? I was in NYC. NY was amazing and has become a second home. Some people start out in small clubs but I was blessed to work with one of the top Promoters in NY Mook Diamonds and he gave me a chance of a Lifetime.
UV: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Mylezia: Touring the world with mu sic, getting into Film(I receive so many scripts now…it’s crazy), Getting major endorsements and starting my own foundation to help kids being raised in single parent households.
UV: Do you have any upcoming shows?
Mylezia: Yes. I am performing at A3C in Atlanta and some shows NY, CT and LA.
UV: What` current projects do you have out or forthcoming projects in progress? I am releasing my 1st EP Mylezia: King Like A Queen in September.
UV: In closing, I would like you to leave the Unheard Voices readers words of encouragement and inspiration, especially for those pursuing a career in music and entertainment.
Mylezia: Don’t ever give up. This industry is not for the weak. It will challenge your endurance and tenacity on a daily basis. You must know your purpose in life and stick to it. Never be afraid to let people go. Not everyone can walk with you on this journey. Make great business decisions and be involved in everything. Trust your instincts regarding people. Learn how to associate with crocked people. They are everywhere and you can not escape them. People will name drop every day. Don’t be impressed by it. They will Lie to you and look you in your face but you must trust God and know that the doors God opens for you no man can close. Finally always be a fan of music. It will keep you humble. The moment you think you have arrived is the moment you risk to lose everything you have worked hard for. Much success to you!! Never give up!!!
