About Smoove Jones by Mya
Smoove Jones was released in celebration of MYA‘s 1998 debut single, “It’s All About Me,” which reached #6 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
“It’s been an amazing 18 years in the music industry, but to have my day-one fans and new fans receptive to my new music is truly a blessing. Smoove Jones is a project that I wanted to have a very grown feel, but was still reminiscent of the old me,” says MYA.
Mya on producing Smoove Jones
MYA acted as Smoove Jones’ executive producer, but she also collaborated with legendary producer, Terry Lewis, from the duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani).
Additionally, singer and Love & Hip-Hop ATL star, Kalenna Harper (Lady GaGa, Tinashe, Christina Augilera), Teron Beal (Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez), and Nikki Flores (Christina Augilera, JoJo). There are minimal features on the project, besides D.C. native, Phil Ade.
This is Mya’s 12th studio project since the 2014 release of the Love Elevation Suite EP. The title of the EP was inspired by MYA‘s studio nickname, “Smoove Jones,” given to her by fellow artist, Cliff Lewis. The entire project is filled with infectious melodies and choruses. Smoove Jones‘ lead single, “One Man Woman II” is a soulful plea to jump heart first into love and enjoy the adventure. Along with “One Man Woman ll,” another stand out track, “Circle of Life,” which is referred to as ‘Old Skoo’ Joints.’ “Circle of Life” deters from the rest of the EP‘s relaxed nature, with it’s uptempo production and wonderful disco inspired feel.
What Mya has been up to
Leading up to Smoove Jones‘ release, MYA has remained busy appearing on Sean Paul’s 2014 Australian tour, Full Frequency.
Additionally, she made a guest appearance as “Lt. Plummer” is the SyFy Channel movie, Bermuda Tentacles. MYA continues to perform around the world and remain involved in philanthropy.
MYA has sold over 7 million albums worldwide and has worked with artists such as: Dr. Dre, Jay Z, and Lil Wayne. In 2002, MYA won a Grammy award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals with Christina Augilera, Lil Kim, and P!nk for “Lady Marmalade.” Smoove Jones is available on all digital retailers and physical copies are available for purchase on MyaMya.com.
