Solange has carved her own way with “A Seat At The Table”
Solange is the name, and I’m sure after you listen to “A Seat At The Table” her musical effort recently released, you’ll not only know but FEEL what I mean.
A spotlight has been brightly shining over her and the entire world worships her entertainment presence, as well as the man she married (…and can we say the daughter that she birthed). You have a spotlight as well, but it hasn’t shown as brightly, but you have carved your own lane and yours is a different color.
Solange is the name, and I’m sure after you listen to “A Seat At The Table” her musical effort recently released, you’ll not only know but FEEL what I mean.
This body of work is amazing at every turn, with the chosen sounds, arrangements background vocals, etc. The fact that she barely has mentioned this effort, and who she’s been working with, was a smart move on her part. You come to it with fresh ears and her choosing Raphael Saadiq to collab with on the project was GENIUS!
The track that has been embedded in my head, “Cranes In The Sky” is just a down, dirty and at the same time angelic song. Mr. Saadiq doing what he does on that bass, with the sounds of Tweet on the background vocals.
Considering this track hasn’t been released as a standalone single, she obviously was feeling it to, because she released a video for it. Yeessss, Solange! Talk about visual art on another level. Just to add, for me the only track that seemed out-of-place, “Mad” which features Lil Wayne, seemed to be the odd man out and wasn’t needed.
Empowerment, Self-Love, Love, Grief are all the emotions within this entire work. She takes you on an art based musical ride along with the mileage. This sister has for sure allowed you to see HER, not her last name and whom happens to be related to her. You see Solange and this being her fourth musical offering has elevated her musically and creatively. Due to this project, I’ve forgotten her others because between “Solo Star” and “True EP”, she found what’s deep within her soul and I pray she continues to elevate on this wave that is high.
