Ghana Session: Homecoming, forensic science, history and more

On October 14, 2016, a video conference and presentations was set up between the students in Ghana and the students from the Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.

Homecoming

Because it was the homecoming football game for the Asbury Park School District, Ms. Love’s, Spanish teacher and cheerleading coach, cheerleaders, Carlie Herrera, Lucero Ruiz, Jakeline Duarte, Keome Whitman, Daesani Clarke, Tatiana Laurore, Quanizja Legagneur, Dalia Merino, Bria Bradford, and Vahkyla Esdaile, opened the session with multiple cheers and incredible athletic maneuvers.

Forensic Science

From there, the session continued with Mr. Middleton, Forensic Science teacher, sharing with all students his assigned project of impression evidence.

Mr. Middleton, along with his student Jaiden Griffin, explained that impression evidence dealt with how objects were pressed together which resulted in one of the objects keeping characteristics from the other. Examples of impression evidence were muddy foot and hand prints.

Multiple presentations

After the Forensic Science presentation, Mr. Wronko’s students presented multiple presentations on Aristotle, James Madison, King Leonidas, King Tut, Marcus Garvey, the Loch Ness Monster, Martin Luther King Jr., Alexander the Great, the Great Pyramids of Giza, Xerxes, and Frank Sinatra.

Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx

In addition, the students from Ghana shared what they knew about the Pyramids of Giza along with the Sphinx of Egypt. They said that the Pyramids were built after Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. Furthermore, they also said that the Sphinx was built after Khafre.

King Leonidas

After the discussion of the Pyramids, Mr. Wronko shared with all the students that King Leonidas was on a suicide mission with his men to battle the Persians, Herodotus was the father of history, and Aristotle taught Alexander the Great.

The conversations regarding the presentations continued between the students of Ghana and the MLK middle school. Because of these presentations Papa, teacher of the students in Ghana, was able to share his artwork of many topics that were discussed on the classroom wall and table.

National Football League

In another presentation, the National Football League was presented along with many popular athletes, a video of Cleopatra was shown, a movie clip of Shin Godzilla (Godzilla Resurgence) was shown, and a wrestling clip of Ghana’s next session celebrity, Tito Santana, was played.

After the videos, Tim Mason, sixth grade science teacher, showed one of his students projects of “How is light involved in my life?”

On an end note Jovard Preval sang a song to the students in Ghana which was “In the Wee Small Hours Of The Morning” by Frank Sinatra.
