The 36-year-old makes history as the youngest mayor to be voted in. Scott was sworn in Tuesday afternoon inside a private ceremony hall in City Hall.
Mayor Scott takes over as Baltimore’s homicide rates continue to rise along with COVID cases. The city has recorded more than 300 homicides and its business are not being sparred from the coronavirus pandemic.
His goals
During his first press conference as mayor, Scott said the status quo must not continue.
“I am not naïve to the challenges we face,” mayor Scott said. “You have trusted me to be your mayor in this critical moment. Through fresh thinking, transparency professionalism, integrity, and hard work, we can meet these challenges.”
Mayor Scott says he is dedicated to treating the city’s homicide rate as a public health crisis, building a safer and more equitable city, and building racial equality.
