Current Events at Asbury Park High School Issue Three: Ghana Session: Remembering Pearl Harbor and Understanding the Importance of Those Who Served with Wilbur V. Martin, Richard Knight, and George Scott
Mr. Wronko’s students and the students at the Solid Rock Foundation School in Ghana had a session remembering the attack on Pearl Harbor
Just recently Mr. Wronko’s students and the students at the Solid Rock Foundation School in Ghana had a session remembering the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and understanding the importance of Those Who Served with veterans of the Vietnam War, Wilbur V. Martin, Richard Knight, and George Scott.
Pearl Harbor
The session began with Mr. Wronko providing all students with a background on Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor which brought the United States into World War II. During the lecture, Mr. Wronko brought up the heroic effort of African American Doris Miller. Doris Miller, a cook, got involved when the attack was taking place by getting onto a gunner and taking out an attacking Japanese plane.
Veterans
After the lecturer, the session was turned over to the three attending veterans and their experiences during the military. Wilbur V. Martin, 10th Airborne, Richard Knight, Navy, and George Scott, the Marines, spoke about their service, travels in the world, physical training, and the honor it was to serve the country. All students from both schools were able to ask numerous questions and were all very honored that they were able to attend.
