Tyler Perry vows to help senior homeowners

According to a report by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Perry spoke with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens about helping low-income older homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes due to rising real estate taxes.

His pledge

Perry has pledged to help in the years to come. If taxes increase over the next 20 years, Perry will cover that amount for 100 homeowners. He has already helped the residents by donating $750,000 to cover the first year of back taxes and increases, and has vowed to give an additional $500,000 each year for the next four years to cover more increases.

In an Instagram post, Perry shared the article from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and explained in a caption how his studio has changed the value of the surrounding homes—and that he won’t stand for residents losing out because of it. “So… I knew that the success of my studio would affect all the property values around it. But make no mistake the seniors on fixed incomes around the studio will not lose their homes because of past due or rising taxes,” he wrote. “We ain’t doing that to our legacy.”
