Civil Rights Leader Dorothy Height Dies

Dorothy Height, a longtime president of National Council of Negro Women, and an instrumental voice during the civil rights era has died.

Dorothy Height, a longtime president of the National Council of Negro Women, and an powerful female voice during the civil rights era in the United States has died.

She was 98.

Legendary Dorothy Height passes

Height died at 3:41am at Howard University Hospital, said hospital’s spokesman Ron Harris.

Height was honored and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994 by President Clinton and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004. She was also one of several African American leaders who met with President Obama recently for a summit on race and economy.
