The death of Don Cornelius sent shock waves around the nation. It was reported the “love, peace, and soul” man died from an apparent suicide. While we may not know as of yet the full details of Don Cornelius death, one thing for certain is that he is not alone.

“Suicide is a major, preventable public health problem. In 2007, it was the tenth leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for 34,598 deaths. The overall rate was 11.3 suicide deaths per 100,000 people. An estimated 11 attempted suicides occur per every suicide death.”

    + Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live.
    + Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain.
    + Talking about being a burden to others.
    + Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs.
    + Acting anxious or agitated; behaving recklessly.
    + Sleeping too little or too much.
    + Withdrawing or feeling isolated.
    + Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge.
    + Displaying extreme mood swings.
