Jahmell Crockam, the 20-year-old New Jersey man who shot and killed a Lakewood police officer to avoid going to jail, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

NJ cop killer Jahmell Crockam sentenced

Judge Wendel E. Daniels imposed the life in prison sentence on Jahmell Crockam for the murder last year of officer Christopher Matlosz.

Matlosz was the first and only law enforcement official to be shot and killed in the line of duty in Ocean County.

Incident

Crockam shot Matlosz three times in the head at close range, in front of three witnesses. Prosecutors argued Crockam executed Matlosz when the officer rolled up on him because he knew there were warrants out for his arrest. Days before shooting the officer, a witness stated Crockam said he would kill a police officer before ever going to jail again.

In addition to being convicted of murder, NJ cop killer Crockam was also found guilty of unlawfully possessing the weapon he used to kill Matlosz.
