A North Carolina pastor is in hot water after his comments to his congregation.

Pastor Sean Harris of Fayetteville, NC is in the spotlight after telling his congregation  to hit children who showed signs of being gay. In the sermon, the pastor said to “break the limp wrists of effeminate boys” and essentially “beat the gay away” from their kids.

“So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, ‘Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,’ you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed,” Harris can be heard preaching.

“Can I make it any clearer?” he yells. “Dads, the second you see that son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give them a good punch.”

Harris takes aim at girls too, warning parents to “rein in” daughters who are “acting too butch.”

After the news received national attention,  Harris says the comment was a joke, saying no matter if the remakes were misconstrued, his congregation knows his intent.

“Everyone in the congregation on that morning understood that there was no intent in any way, shape or form that I meant to break a wrist,” North Carolina Pastor Sean Harris told CNN.

The North Carolina pastor later retracted his comments. In the a released statement to the press, Harris said:

“If I had to say it again, I would say it differently, no doubt,” Harris told the newspaper Tuesday. “Those weren’t planned words, but what I do stand by is that the word of God makes it clear that effeminate behavior is ungodly. I’m not going to compromise on that.”

Despite retracting his statement that parents should be violent toward seemingly-gay children, Harris reiterated that parents should reinforce traditional gender roles in children.

“I do not apologize for the manner in which the word of God articulates sexual immorality, including homosexuality and effimancy, as a behavior that is an abomination of God,” he said in a written statement.
