May is Lupus Awareness Month
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys.
However, Lupus can affect any major organ inside the body. With Lupus, something goes wrong with the immune system, which is part of the body that helps fight infections like bacteria, viruses, and germ.
The two most common types of Lupus are, Systemic lupus and Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus.
The most common of the two, systemic lupus, involves more serious complications of major organs.
Renee battled the disease for more than 30 years but unfortunately passed away at the age of 41 on August 14, 2000.
Neptune Township, New Jersey has designated August 18th as Renee Covin’s Day.
The founder of Unheard Voices and her family uses this day to honor her memory and raise awareness on Lupus.
