18-year-old Tony Farmer was only one year away from entering college as one of the top freshman recruits in the nation when his dreams were put on hold.

The promising basketball star from Garfield Heights, Ohio will spend the next three years in jail after being convicted of abducting and assault on his ex-girlfriend, Andrea Lane.

According to reports, the teens got into an altercation last April and Farmer dragged Lane by her hair in the parking lot of an apartment. Farmer also sent threatening text messages to Lane.

With coaches, teachers, family, and friends coming to his defense asking for probation instead of a prison term, Farmer surely didn’t expect to spend the next 36 months in jail.

After a Cuyahoga County judge read his sentence, Farmer collapsed and began crying. The judge will review Farmer’s sentence in 180 days.
