The concept of the ISpitNYC event is amazing.

ISpitNYC, can we say DOPE!!??!!??!!?

Artist compete for $200 dollars and get judged by well known figures in the underground community. I being an event producer can really appreciate this event. It gives artist direction. It allows them to get insight on where they need to improve. It also helps them connect with other artist.

I walked in and all I could see was artist gathered in a space vibing and listening to some underground music. Its always dope seeing artist support and appreciate each other. Its an amazing vibe when your surrounded by art and lovers of it. Its a totally different vibe when its all in the name of Hip Hop.

I was greeted at the door by the the event producer, LBanks DaBossy and the host of the night Nigel Scott Morris. It was warm vibes from the beginning.

The night began. I must say some of the artist were not impressive. Mostly because clearly the essence of Hip Hop has been lost in translation. Hip Hop was created to express a struggle, a growth, a determination of a people. It was created to help an oppressed people break the chains of racism, hate and discrimination. It is not a genre its a culture!

Now ISpitNYC has become a platform to rant about popping Molly and f–king “b-tches” in strip clubs after smoking a blunt. Hip Hop has become an onslaught of stupidity and new artist are carrying it on as if the new route is okay.

There were two acts who made the worst lasting impression on me… I want to say their names but I respect the growth needed as an artist so I wont say their name with hopes that they will change. But one had a hook that says; “Beat that b-tch like a piñata.” The other terrible act was a duo. One half of the act was amazing but the hype man needs a bible and and some holy water. He has no concept of performance and is beyond lost. He can’t handle a mic or deal with the fact that he is hyper. The hype man did some things that I wont even mention but he needs to be saved QUICK!

Beyond those acts it was am amazing and powerful night.

I was outside talking to the producer and there was a man who was drunk beyond words and this beautiful woman let him inside the event to keep him out of trouble. That act was so powerful to me. It said a lot for her character. A kind heart. I loved and respected that minor act. It came so first nature to her. Beautiful. And that man had the time of his life. If we could all be more caring of our community we could get so much further as a people. But sadly we dont all approach life this way. I hope she continues to rise as a leader.

The highlight artist of the night for me was an amazing artist by the name of She RealShe totally lives up to her name. Performance is CRAZY! Lyrics is CRAZY! Punch lines are BANANAS! And she keeps it real. She was amazing and she was the winner of the night. The grand prize was $200 and a dope media package. She totally deserved it. She is an artist that I feel deserves shine and can go very far. Not to mention she is very humble and gracious. Absolutely adorable. Her smile is warm enough to melt butter.

ISpitNYC introduces you to a whole new realm. It shows that the inner-city community that is so feared holds more greatness than outsiders want to believe. We are art. We are life. But most of all… We are REAL!

I believe in this event and cant wait to see what it grows into.

PEACE
