Didn’t get a chance to attend Hot 97 Summer Jam 2014? Well, we’ve got you covered. Here is our recap.

Hot 97 Summer Jam is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and each year the radio station knows it’s only right to do it bigger and better than the last. The annual concert is held at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Summer Jam 2014 was a night of re-uniting and reminiscing. But before the main event, talented artists on the rise blessed the festival stage.

The Festival stage allows up and coming artists a chance to claim their fame. With a set of contestants pouring their heart out for a prize a few familiar names then took the stage next.

Mack Wilds represented New York right with his hit “Own It”. Actor turned rapper Childish Gambino blessed the audience with an epic set.
Iggy Azalea showed the audience how the female rappers do it. Singer Jhene gave the audience an R&B appeal and ended with her hit “The Worst”. August Aulsina, Nippy Hussle, and Chinx Drugz had memorable sets as well.

The main stage performance kicked off with Sevyn Streeter. It was a pleasure seeing the songstress who had made strides in the industry working with several groups, now seeing solo success. Shortly after, Troy Ave and Action Bronson hit the stage.

Wiz Khalifa kept the fans going with an amazing set and brought out Snoop Dog for a cameo appearance. The show even added a sexy R&B appeal with a set by Trey Songz.

Following an all day festival in Philadelphia the day before, The Roots performed various hits and made audiences reminiscence on the 90s era by bringing out The Lox and Black Sheep.

Nas had an unforgettable set including cameos by Meek Millz and Frech Montana. The Queens rapper performed “New York State of Mind” and continued his Illmatic twentieth anniversary celebration with several other tracks from the debut. His was our favorite performance of the night.

Nas made it known that Queens was in the building, and introduced 50 Cent, who made it more known that Queens was in the building by reuniting the G-Unit gang (Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck). Together the rappers performed  hits like “So Seductive” and “Shorty Wanna Ride.” 50 Cent also invited New York Fabulous on stage and performed alongside Yo Gotti as well.

Ending the night as a headliner was Nicki Minaj. Two years prior, the femcee opted out of performing at Summer Jam. This year she promised fans would leave excited and blessed. Not only did Minaj prove she can stand amongst the best male rappers in the game, she single-handedly proved she’s one of the best in the game period. Minaj came on stage looking natural, leaving the barbie act at home, and brought the real hip-hop.

She kicked off an hour long performance bringing her fellow YMCMB  artists like Drake, Lil Wayne, and newcomer Lil Herb.

The night was amazing, indelible, and probably one of the best Summer Jam’s we’ve been to in years.
