Janay Rice, wife of NFL running back Ray Rice, took to Instagram to express her thoughts and account in wake of the footage of him assaulting her in an elevator being released.

When the story originally broke in February, the only footage available showed the aftermath of the assault in which Rice allegedly dragged his then fiancée’s unconscious body out of an elevator at an Revel hotel in Atlantic City.

Based on this footage and the story told to teammates and league officials, Rice was given a two game suspension.

But months later, TMZ got a hold of a video that shows Rice punching Janay in the face before dragging her unconscious body out of the elevator.

Months after Rice’s punishment was given, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell admitted to poor handling of the incident and implemented new guidelines for domestic abuse on behalf of its players. Under the new guidelines, a first domestic abuse offense leads to a six game suspension with a second leading to a lifetime ban.

With a combination of the new footage and the public outcry to follow, the NFL quickly reacted and suspended Rice indefinitely, along with the Baltimore Ravens terminating his contract.

Janay Rice said in her instagram that the media is to blame for ruining their lives and is doing so for ratings.
