Colin Kaepernick has launched a legal fund on Friday to pay for top defense lawyers to represent arrested George Floyd protesters.

Fund to help George Floyd protesters

The fund, called The Know Your Rights Camp Legal Defense Initiative, states on its website:

“When there is an injustice within our community, it is our legal right to address it, by any means necessary.”

Numerous people have been arrested as massive protests in Minneapolis and other major cities call for the end of police brutality and highlight injustices against people of color in the wake of a viral video showing Floyd’s arrest and murder.

Why they are protesting

George Floyd, 46, died when former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for nearly eight minutes as he cried “I can’t breathe”

On May 29, 2020 Chauvin was arrested and charged with third degree murder and manslaughter in connection to Floyd’s death.
