Joe Biden has announced Kamala Harris as his running mate ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Wisconsin.

Joe Biden’s running mate is Kamala Harris 

The pick makes the California senator the first Black and South Asian American woman to run on a major political party’s presidential ticket.

Biden made the announcement late Tuesday afternoon.

“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” Biden wrote in the tweet.

Harris, a 55-year-old Oakland native and Howard University Alum, has been a U.S. senator since being elected in 2017, reports CNN.

Prior to serving in Congress, she worked as California’s attorney general.
