Len Bias To Be Inducted Into The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame
Maryland men’s basketball legend Len Bias will finally be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
More than 34 years after his tragic death, Maryland men’s basketball legend Len Bias will finally be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. The late Bias is a part of an eight-man class that will be inducted in November 2021, according to a press release.
“I’m really excited for the Bias family on Len being selected for enshrinement into the Hall of Fame,” said Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon. “It’s a well-deserved honor and well overdue. It’s great news for the Maryland program and for all those associated with Len.”
Len Bias, who was often compared to Michael Jordan, is considered one of the greatest college basketball players of all time. Bias currently sits at third all-time in the Maryland record books with 2,149 points. It should be noted that Bias is the only player in the top-three who played without a universal three-point line.
Bias dominated the ACC from 1982-1986, being named ACC Player of the Year in 1985 and 1986. In addition, Bias earned All-American honors in both of those seasons.
After the 1986 season, Bias was selected second overall in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, he died shortly after being drafted.
