Ghana Session: Memorial Day 2021 With Special Guests Sarah Luciano and Brian Carney!

Last year in 2020, it was a very rough time due to COVID 19.

Normally I would have guests for Memorial Day. But because of how bad the COVID 19 pandemic was, I was not able to get any guests for a Ghana session.

However, my luck for the 2020- 2021 school year changed.

Because of Veronica Allende, she introduced me to so many great individuals this school year for my students and the students at the Solid Rock Foundation School in Ghana to become acquainted with.

Thanks to Mrs. Allende, I was able to have guests this year for the Memorial Day session of Project Ghana.

Those guests were Sarah Luciano and Brian Carney.

About Sarah Luciano and Brian Carney

Sarah Luciano, a civilian attorney in the Air Force and experience with being a prosecutor, and Brian Carney, served in the Air Force and Division of Criminal Justice prosecutor, took their time out to speak with my students at the Asbury Park High School and the students at the Solid Rock Foundation School in Ghana.

During this session, the students in Ghana put together a presentation for our guests which dealt with the continent of Africa and the culture and history of Ghana.

In addition, because in the United States Memorial Day was celebrated, they brought up how in Ghana they celebrated Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day. This day remembered the Ghanaian veterans who lost their lives during World War One.

After their presentation, a Memorial Day video was shown that provided an insight on how this holiday came about remembering and honoring those brave men and women who died so that the United States had freedom. What is Memorial Day? – YouTube

Once the video was finished, both guests for the session gave a presentation about their careers in the Air Force.

Both Mrs. Luciano and Mr. Carney spoke about being a member of JAG in the Air Force, which meant being a military lawyer. Luciano explained how the military provided opportunities to get involved in other fields for a career.

For instance, Carney used his example.

He informed all the students in the session how he worked on jet engines as a mechanic and how the military put him on the path of becoming a lawyer.

Furthermore, both guests spoke about how being in the Air Force allowed them to travel to many places in the world and Operations Law.

All the students asked the guests numerous questions in which they were happy to answer. Once the session was finished, I thanked both guests for taking their time out to help resurrect the Memorial Day Ghana session.
