Jamie Moore, the mother of Jashyah Moore, the 14-year-old from New Jersey who had been missing for about a month, has been charged with two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Jaime Moore Charged

The charges against 39-year-old Jamie Moore were announced in a press release Friday from acting Essex County prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi, who added that the charges include allegations of physical abuse and neglect.

Moore was arrested early Friday and is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility.

Jashyah, who was found safe in New York City on Thursday, and her 3-year-old brother were removed from Moore’s custody by the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP).

At a press conference Friday, police said Jashyah had run away from home and did not want to return.

The teen “is currently safe and is being provided all appropriate services,” Stephens said in a statement.

Authorities believe Jashyah was alone when she was found. She is said to have found shelter in Brooklyn.

Jashyah Moore Goes Missing

Jashyah went missing after going to Poppie’s Deli Store in East Orange.

According to reports, Jamie Moore asked her daughter to go to the deli for groceries.  When Jashyah returned from the store, she told her mother she misplaced the family’s debit card.

Jaime Moore told reporters that she had sent her daughter to retrace her steps to locate the misplaced card. When the teen did not return, Moore said she went searching for Jashyah and alerted authorities.

There was a weekslong search for Jashyah, including a reward that reached up to $20,000.

Criminal complaint

New details have emerged since Jamie Moore’s arrest.

According to the criminal complaint, Jamie Moore had a history of physically abusing her 14-year-old daughter Jashyah Moore.

The mother allegedly stabbed her daughter, sprayed bleach in her eyes, pulled her braids out and hit her on the head with a frying pan.

She is also accused of putting her knees on the teen’s neck and back, causing the teen to struggle to breathe.

Jamie Moore allegedly disrupted Jashyah’s education forcing her to log out of remote learning so that she could panhandle for money and take care of her younger brother.

Authorities say that Jashyah was not enrolled in school this year, even though she wanted to be.

On the day Jashyah went missing on October 14th, she told authorities her mother verbally abused her and cursed at her for losing a debit card.

She says that her mother grabbed her by the neck, scratching her and told her to go back and find the card.

Jashyah also apparently told investigators that she knew if she went back home without the card, her mother would beat her.

Jamie Moore reported Jashyah missing about a month ago. Then, she started speaking out about the investigation about 10 days ago.

Ongoing Investigation

East Orange Police, the FBI and the New Jersey State Police worked in collaboration to help find Jashyah.

Anyone who knows about her disappearance should call the East Orange Police at (973) 266-5041.
