Krishna Martes, legislative aide to the office of Senator Gopal, took time off from her busy schedule to visit the Asbury Park High School to participate in a Ghana session.

During this session Krishna Martes was joined by Oiada’s Student Ambassadors in Ghana and Mr. David Wronko’s Dream Scholars. Since Krishna Martes was new to the sessions, Oiada’s Student Ambassadors gave her a presentation about Ghana. They explored Ghana’s history, culture, sports, recreational activities, and goals.

After their presentation, Mr. Wronko’s student, Amy Contreras-Contreras, volunteered to share with Krishna Martes and the Oiada Ambassadors her presentation regarding a bill that should be passed to help fund Museums.
This bill she created was a part of her Action Civics Project. She explained that Museums were important for our understanding of the world, history, and culture. She stated that with this understanding everyone in the world could be united. Thus, that was the explanation why a state legislature should consider passing a bill ensuring that museums last.
Once Amy was done with her presentation, Krishna Martes gave a presentation on the work she does for Senator Gopal. She also explained the process of how a bill was presented and passed in the NJ Legislature.
After she was done with her presentation, Oiada’s Ambassadors and Mr. Wronko’s students asked her numerous questions regarding the topic of bills in the legislature, possible career in politics, and hobbies.
To conclude this session, Phikai Gross did a presentation on the Amistad incident and court case. He explained that those who were enslaved were forced into slavery illegally. Therefore, under American law, those who took control over the Amistad slave ship were set free.
Oiada’s Student Ambassadors and Mr. David Wronko’s Dream Scholars at Asbury Park High School thanked Krishna Martes for attending this session and hope for more future sessions with her.
