Minneapolis boy, 11, dies in brother’s arms after broad daylight park shooting

Atkins, died in his older brother’s arms while being rushed to the hospital.

Gunfire erupted around 2 p.m., according to Minneapolis Police. Witnesses reported multiple vehicles driving through the park when shots rang out..
A nearby resident heard cries for help and found Amir wounded. He placed the boy and his brother in his car and drove toward the hospital. On the way, he flagged down police. Despite life-saving efforts, Amir was pronounced dead at the scene.
A GoFundMe has been created to help the family during this difficult time.
Family members described Amir as joyful and full of life. “He had a unique spark that touched everyone he met,” said his uncle in a GoFundMe post.

The investigation is ongoing.
