Authorities in New Jersey reported that someone fatally shot Toraya Reid, the sister of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid.

She was 28.

Someone shot Reid outside a Jackson Township apartment building Saturday morning. Authorities found her near an exit with multiple gunshot wounds.

Suspect

Law enforcement swiftly apprehended 29-year-old Shaquille Green, who was reportedly in a relationship with Reid. Both individuals resided in Jackson Township, though officials have not confirmed whether they shared a residence.

Authorities charged Green with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. They in Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Naz Reid Mourns Sister’s Death Amid Rising NBA Stardom

Naz Reid, 26, recently secured a $125 million contract extension with the Timberwolves and has become a fan favorite for his performance on and off the court. Despite his growing fame, Reid has consistently credited his older sister for shaping his character and protecting him during their upbringing in Asbury Park.

“She treats us like she’s our parent,” Reid told Mpls.St Paul Magazine in 2023, reflecting on Toraya’s role in their family.

Family Grieves Loss of Beloved Sister

The Reid family, including youngest sister Jakahya, is grappling with the devastating loss. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Jakahya expressed disbelief and anguish, writing, “We always send our condolences and say we could never imagine ourselves in that situation… and yet here I am. Facing the unimaginable. Without you by my side.”

She continued, “I’ll never get over this. I’ll never forgive God for taking you away from me… I can’t even fathom putting your name and death in the same sentence.”

All three siblings attended Roselle Catholic High School in northern New Jersey, approximately 40 miles from their hometown. While Naz pursued basketball, Toraya gravitated toward softball, and their father coached football—underscoring the family’s deep ties to athletics and mentorship.

As the investigation continues, authorities have not released further details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Reid family has requested privacy during this time of mourning.
