Whitney Was a Woman of God, So It’s Befitting To Say She’s ‘Going Home’
Whitney Houston was a woman of God, so it is befitting to say she is going home
The official funeral invitation was released for Whitney Houston’s funeral that will take place on Saturday. Needless to say, my heart dropped because it reaffirmed that she’s really gone.
Recently, I read a post stating Whitney Houston’s service will not be a typical ‘funeral’ but will be a ‘home going service’.
The author of this article seemed very bewildered to say the least, and uneducated on why her family called the services a “home going”.
As a person who was raised in the church, I immediately said to myself “what’s the confusion, it’s always been this way”.
Though one of the biggest celebrities in the world, Whitney Houston certainly wasn’t shy to let others know her love for God.
If you are a true fan of Whitney Houston, you know her humble beginnings in music began in the church; New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ to be exact.
No matter what the world thought of her ,Whitney was always a woman of God in my eyes; so it is more than befitting to say she is going home.
Churches, particularly predominately black ones, usually don’t call services “funerals”, but rather home going services to celebrate the life of the individual and the eternal soul going home.
Anyone who is a true child of God knows when God calls you, you are going home.
We love you Whitney, and may you rest in eternal peace.
