Milwaukee mourns fallen officer Kendall Corder after line-of-duty shooting

The city of Milwaukee is in mourning following the tragic death of Officer Kendall Corder, a six-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a line-of-duty shooting.

Milwaukee Officer Kendall Corder killed in the line of duty

On June 26, Officer Corder, 32, and his partner, Officer Christopher McCray, 29, were responding to reports of gunfire near North 25th Street and West Garfield Avenue when they were ambushed.

Both officers were struck before they could return fire.

Officer McCray was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer Corder was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He passed away on Sunday evening.

Kendall Corder was a beloved officer

At a press conference, Police Chief Jeffrey Norman described Officer Corder as “someone who loved his career” and “looked forward to being part of the work to impact public safety in our community.”

Mayor Cavalier Johnson echoed the sentiment, stating, “He died doing what he loved—protecting and serving the people of Milwaukee”.

Suspect arrested

A 22-year-old suspect was arrested without incident on Friday, June 27.

Authorities have not yet released his name or the charges pending against him.

A call for unity

The Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee Police Association have called for unity and support during this time of grief.

“We grieve for his family, friends, loved ones, his partner, and every member of his MPD family whose hearts are shattered by his loss,” the department said in a statement.

Corder is the sixth Milwaukee police officer shot and killed since 2018.
