Reginald Doucet shooting “justified”

After a year long investigation in the shooting death of the model and former college football star, the case was officially closed on December 23rd.

According to LA Weekly, the Los Angeles Police Commission, who conducts all internal investigations, ruled the LAPD officer who shot Reginald Doucet Jr in front of his California apartment was justified in using “deadly force”.

Reginald was a 25 year old former college football star who was growing his career as a life and fitness coach. On the early morning of January 14, Reginald was involved in a dispute with a cab driver for an unpaid cab fair. In an attempt to prove he could pay, he removed his clothing and headed to his condo only to realize he had been locked out.

Upon return to the cab, and a dispute with the driver the LA Pacific Police Unit was called and arrive on scene in minutes. Upon arrival there was a confrontation between the officers and Mr. Doucet, who was in boxers only.

As events continued, the officers and Mr. Doucet ended up at the entrance of his condo. During the physical altercation in the entrance one of the police officers felt it necessary to pull his gun from its holster and fire two shots, point blank range into Reginald’s neck. Before calling for emergency crews to respond they “detained” Reginald. Mr. Doucet was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital shortly after.

Doucet’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit and it is currently pending.
