Details; San Antonio, TX woman fatally mauled by dog

The attack occurred on July 23 at the Lennox Apartments, where Lyke lived with her boyfriend. According to witnesses and family members, the American Bully Pitbull named Pablo had a documented history of aggression and had previously bitten multiple people. Despite knowing the risks, the owner failed to properly restrain the dog.

Witnesses recounts harrowing experience

Lyke’s friend, who was present during the incident, recounted the horrifying moment when the dog turned on Simone after initially trying to attack her. “She screamed, ‘Call 911, he’s got my arm,’” the friend told reporters. Emergency responders arrived and attempted to subdue the dog with tasers, but Lyke had already suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of her arm and severe damage to her heart and lungs. She died four days later, on July 27, her birthday.

Her mother, Suzzette Lyke, drove 17 hours from Chicago to be by her daughter’s side. “It broke my heart to know that she had been mauled for 23 minutes, and nobody came,” she said.

GoFundMe campaign created in Simone Lyke’s memory

In response, Lyke’s sister Lauren Early created a GoFundMe titled Help Honor Simone Lyke’s Memory and Seek Justice fundraiser aims to cover medical and funeral expenses, legal consultations, and travel costs for family members. It also supports advocacy efforts for stronger dog ownership regulations.

“Simone was the light in every room—loving, vibrant, and always ready to help those around her,” the campaign reads. “We are left mourning a beautiful soul taken far too soon under circumstances that could—and should—have been prevented”.

Animal Care Services euthanized Pablo on August 6 and cited the dog’s second co-owner, believed to be Simone Lyke’s boyfriend, for failing to provide vaccination and microchip records for another dog in the home. Authorities have not filed any criminal charges as of this report.

Lyke’s family remains committed to uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable. “We have to do what’s right for Simone,” said family friend Monee Morgan.
