A 103-year-old woman and her 83-year-old daughter are safe in their Atlanta home after deputies refused to throw them out.

Deutsche Bank sent sheriff’s to the home Tuesday to evict the inhabitants who were behind on their payments, but when they saw the 103-year-old Atlanta woman and daughter, who had been living there for 53 years, they decided not to go through with the eviction as planned.

Vita Lee, who will be 104 in a few weeks, and several community activists were at the home when the deputies decided not to go through with the eviction. Lee says her home has been in the court system for years. Although her family has the money to pay the debt, they have had trouble getting Chase Bank, who locally services the loan, to accept payments.
