Black woman from England fights racism single-handedly
It is 2013 and it’s still unbelievable that racism has a major place in our world society.
It is 2013 and it’s still unbelievable that racism has a major place in our world society.
Martha-Renee Kolleh, a Black Caribbean woman from Ossett, who runs Yeanon Café in the West Yorkshire of England has had enough with the racism that she has been dealing with for the last two years being a restaurant owner.
She said she was sick of people walking out of her cafe’ when they saw the color of her skin. So she put a sign in the front window of her restaurant, “telling racist white people not to come in if they don’t like the fact that she is a black woman.”
She became so tired of racism and people’s attitudes, she did an experiment by hiring a white woman to work the front area of the restaurant.
The establishment was booming with business and the white people had no problem buying and filling up the seats in the restaurant.
The bottom line is that Matha-Renee Kolleh is not scared and will not tolerate this modern day racism. Furthermore, it doesn’t matter if it’s happening in English or the Great United States. Another sign reads,
“Attention!,” written in all caps, “EVERYONE BE AWARE I AM A BLACK WOMAN, AND ALWAYS WILL BE[.] IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO BLACK PEOPLE, DON’T COME IN.”
“Marth-Renee Kolleh said she put the sign there because the way people treat her in Ossett”.
Kolleh also goes on to mentioned that some residents have received the “warning” with an understanding laugh, while others responded by cursing at her.
She was asked about any backlash from the community. She said although there are some racist in the community there are other people in the community that are nice, cordial, and wouldn’t tolerate such behavior from anyone.
