DeRay Davis, Aries Spears, Tracy Morgan & more rock it out at Hot 97’s April Fools Day Comedy Show
Hot 97 radio station held its annual Hot 97 April Fools Day Comedy Show
The show was jammed pack last night at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Hot 97 radio station held its annual Hot 97 April Fools Day Comedy Show. And it couldn’t fall on a better day.
Hot 97 April Fools Day Comedy Show
This year it was hosted by the illustrious Tracy Morgan, who is making his way back into the entertainment scene since his life altering car accident. I had never heard so many laughs throughout the night from the audience as each act came out. Acts like Felipe Esparanza, Tony Woods, and Dominique who represented for the ladies blessed the stage.
Rickey Smiley
Rickey Smiley gave the crowd an interesting stand up. Smiley, who is known for his church comedy, gave the audience a hilarious laugh out loud moments.
“I wanted my cousin to have a normal funeral. You know to avoid the spectacle. I put him in a regular casket. When it was time to view the body, my cousin’s body wasn’t there. We were like, what happened? We realized as the pall bearers started walking up the steps (laughs behind to ensue) yall … my cousin’s body fell down to the other half of the casket”. The audience erupted in laughter.
Donell Rawlings, famous for his appearance on The Dave Chapelle Show, made an appearance. The Washington, DC native made jokes about ISIS, “I don’t f–k with ISIS”, to Katt Williams.
A crowd favorite, Aries Spears, had a captivating performance. Dressed in his normal attire, an oversized black tee and black fitted hat, the New York & New Jersey native came as raw as he normally does.
Spears started his act with a Jay-Z impression and then transitioned to talking about having a daughter and stripping. The guy loves strip clubs!
DeRay Davis
Chicago Native DeRay Davis headlined the show and brought down the house with his in your face comedy. The comedian/actor known for appearing in movies like Barbershop, Jumping The Broom, Johnson’s Family Vacation, talked about a variety topics to being rich, women, to being killed off Empire.
“People ask me, why was I killed off Empire. I don’t know. If I would’ve known I was going to be killed off, I would have never showed up”, laughter erupts.
The night ended with all of the comedians coming back on stage to stand for a photo opp for press and fans.
The Hot 97 April Fools Day comedy show was phenomenal and definitely another success for the radio station. As I walked out of the show still laughing from the jokes, I knew this is a show I would definitely love to return to.
