Michigan crash claims lives of mother and two children
In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Demi and honor the lives of her mother and brothers.
A violent car crash Friday, August 29, in Pontiac, MI, claimed the lives of a 37-year-old Michigan mother and her two young sons.
The collision, which occurred around 8:20 p.m., also left two others hospitalized, including the family’s only surviving child.
Details: Michigan crash claims lives if mother and two children
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash unfolded when a 21-year-old driver of a 2022 Honda Civic allegedly veered into oncoming traffic, struck multiple signs and poles, and then collided with a Chevrolet Malibu stopped at a red light. The Malibu carried the mother, identified by family as Deniquah Reed and her three children.

Michigan crash: Immediate Response and Devastating Outcome
Multiple 911 calls flooded dispatch as witnesses reported the crash. Deputies arrived swiftly and attempted lifesaving measures, but they could not save Deniquah, who died at the scene. Emergency crews transported her sons, ages 6 and 4, to a local hospital, but doctors could not prevent their deaths.
Her daughter, 9-year-old Demi, remains in critical condition. The driver of the Civic, also hospitalized, is in stable condition. Authorities suspect speed and possible substance use played a role in the crash.
Family Grieves, Community Mobilizes
In the wake of the tragedy, grieving relatives launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the daughter and honor the lives of her mother and brothers. The fundraiser, organized by a grieving relative, reads:
“Our lives were forever changed. My only daughter, Deniquah, and her two sons were tragically killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. The only survivor of the crash was my granddaughter, Demi. While we are grateful that she survived, her life will never be the same, she has lost her mother and brothers in one heartbreaking moment.”
The campaign seeks to cover funeral expenses and provide long-term support for Reed’s daughter, whose recovery, both physical and emotional, will be steep and uncertain.
Investigation Underway
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit, with assistance from the Drone Unit, is actively investigating the incident. Sheriff Michael Bouchard expressed condolences, stating, “This unimaginable tragedy has taken the lives of a parent and two young children. Our investigators will work tirelessly to determine the full circumstances of this incident. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family as they navigate this profound loss”.
As the investigation continues, the community grapples with grief, searches for answers, and rallies around the young girl who now faces life without her closest loved ones.
