Asbury Park High School: Double Event and More!
Asbury Park High School history teacher Mr. David Wronko hosted a double event last Thursday.
Asbury Park High School history teacher Mr. David Wronko hosted a double event last Thursday.
LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS
The first event involved Janice McGowen of the League of Women Voters.
During this event Janice McGowen conducted a lesson with the students on the history of voting rights in America. Every student got to participate as they played a character through the use of an avatar on whether or not they could vote based on the time. Students learned that it took a great period of time for women, Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, Chinese Americans, and Native Americans to finally get the right to vote. All groups had to endure a great period of racism and discrimination. But in the end, all groups gained that important victory of getting their voices heard.
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
The second event celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month.
VFW member Jose Coss joined by Wilbur V. Martin, and Peter Russell to discuss what it was like to be a Hispanic America being in the military. He shared with the students his tours on duty as well as his goals after serving. To add to his presentation Wilbur V. Martin and Peter Russell gave their background of obstacles they had to overcome in their lives.

Asbury Park High School in The Coaster
THE COASTER/IN THE NEWS
Not too long Mr. David Wronko’s 9/11 event was published in The Coaster. During this event, students conducted presentations of remembrance of those lives lost on that tragic day. The students were joined by members of the VFW.
Tie Learning to Upcoming Movies
Students had recently finished a project relating to the upcoming movie Doomsday. Below was the assignment and students gave remarkable presentations tying real history with a fictional upcoming movie.
In December Marvel will release Avengers Doomsday. This movie is a direct sequel to Marvel Avengers End Game. Now how is it possible to go from End Game to Dooms Day? After you answer that question, let’s bring it into a World History Perspective.
How did World War One, which was supposed to be the war to end all wars (End Game) lead into World War II and beyond (Dooms Day: Also go beyond WWII all the way to the present)? For this assignment have a two-type page report and a five-slide presentation.
