He was iconic
Scott, who formed the group alongside his twin brother Wallace “Scotty” Scott in the early 1960s, helped shape the sound of soul and R&B for more than six decades. Known for timeless hits like “And the Beat Goes On,” “Rock Steady,” and “It’s a Love Thing,” The Whispers became a staple of Black music excellence, blending smooth harmonies with infectious grooves.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, the Scott twins moved to Los Angeles in 1959, where they began singing at Jordan High School. By 1964, The Whispers were born—a group that would go on to earn gold and platinum records, headline international tours, and inspire generations of artists.
Scott continued to perform with The Whispers well into his later years, most recently headlining the Taste of Soul Family Festival in 2023.
Memorial details have not yet been announced. Tributes have poured in from across the music world, honoring a man whose artistry helped define a genre—and whose legacy will continue to echo through every beat.
“And the beat goes on…”
