In a banquet room at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. before dawn the National Urban League led a pre-march rally. Actor Clifton Powell was introduced by Marc H. Morial, president and CEO, National Urban League and former mayor of New Orleans.
After the applause died down, Powell gave an emotional recollection of the impact of the assassination of Reverend Dr. King, Jr. on his father. This was the epiphany in his life he had to support the movement.
Clifton Powell played King in ‘Selma, Lord Selma’ in 1999. He recited part of his speech given in Memphis, TN to the audience delight.
