Actress Daniele Watts, who was detained by Studio City police, has contacted the NAACP, accusing the police department of racism and discrimination.
What happened to actress Daniele Watts?
Watts, who is African American, was handcuffed on September 11th after showing public display of affection with her boyfriend, who is white.
Police said they were responding to calls from witnesses who said Watts and her boyfriend were involved in a “sexual act” in a public place in their car.
The actress believes she was targeted and police allegedly detained her because they thought she was a sex worker.
CNN Reports:
“There was an indication on the radio call that a male white and female black were involved in a sexual act inside a Mercedes with the vehicle door open,” Officer Sally Madera said.
Her boyfriend — Brian James Lucas but better known as celebrity chef Cheffy Be*Live — wrote in a Facebook post that police “saw a tatted RAWKer white boy and a hot bootie shorted black girl and thought we were a HO (prostitute) & a TRICK (client).”
“Two people were briefly detained, but it was revealed no crime had been committed,” Medera said.
Lucas was not handcuffed, but the woman was, according to the couple.
After the incident, the couple has contacted lawyers, the ACLU and the NAACP.
