Initially launched with a modest target of $11,000, the fundraiser gained rapid traction after the DeKalb County Police Department shared it on social media Monday morning. By Tuesday, contributions had already exceeded $330,000, and donations have continued to pour in throughout the week.
“We mourn the loss of Officer Rose, killed in the line of duty while serving our community,” the department wrote on X. “Please consider donating or sharing.”
Tragic incident at the CDC in Atlanta
Officer Rose, 38, was fatally shot during a confrontation with a gunman who opened fire near the CDC campus. The shooter, identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White of Kennesaw, died at the scene.White reportedly blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for making him depressed and suicidal.
Rose leaves behind a wife, two children, and a third child on the way.
GoFundMe honors Officer Rose as a dedicated public servant and loving family man
The GoFundMe tribute describes Rose as “more than a dedicated public servant, he was a loving father, a devoted husband, a cherished brother, and a loyal friend.” It continues, “His kindness, courage, and unwavering commitment to his family and community touched the lives of everyone who knew him.”
Rose’s mother, Deveane Atkinson, spoke to local media, expressing pride in her son’s bravery. “If you would ask him, he would do it again,” she said. “That’s the kind of person he is.”
Organizers continue to encourage donations and shares, emphasizing that every contribution helps the Rose family navigate this heartbreaking chapter.
“We humbly ask for your support, whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign, to stand beside the Rose family just as David stood beside all of us,” the fundraiser states.
