Nike showed up and showed out in a big way. Colin Kaepernick is the new face of Nike’s 30th Anniversary Just Do It campaign.

Nike features Colin Kaepernick

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell,  Nike has been paying Kaepernick all along and “waiting for the right moment,” which is now. Nike signed Kaepernick in 2011, but has not used him over the past two years.

“We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward,” Gino Fisanotti, Nike’s vice president of brand for North America, told ESPN.

Kaepernick posted the ad on social media which has the words, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything. #JustDoIt.

Nike is the official sponsor of the NFL. Other athletes featured in the Just Do It campaign are Serena Williams, Lebron James, Odell Beckham Jr., and Shaquem Griffin.

In August 2016, the former 49ers quarterback began kneeling in protest against police brutality and racial injustices in America. By 2017, the protest grew as dozens of athletes joined the protest. Unfortunately, after the season ended, Kaepernick has not been picked up by a team. He filed a grievance against the NFL stating collusion in October 2017 after another team did not pick him up. His case has moved. He won the summary phase of his collusion case last week.
