Former middleweight champion and boxing legend Marvin Hagler has died. He was 66.
How did Marvin Hagler pass away?
“I am sorry to make a very sad announcement,” his wife Kay G. Hagler said in a Facebook post on Marvelous Marvin Hagler Fan Club page.
“Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire. Our family requests that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Marvelous
Known as “Marvelous”, Hagler boxed in 67 fights during his 14-year professional boxing career, winning 62 and 52 of those by knockout. He drew two and lost three times.
He made 12 successful title defenses and famously won the classic fight known as ‘The War’, when he beat Thomas ‘Hit Man’ Hearns in April 1985.
Marvin Hagler is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Also, he’s a member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
He was named the Fighter of the Decade by Boxing Illustrated magazine for the 1980s. Twice, he was named the Fighter of the Year.
The New Jersey-born athlete is one of the best middleweights of all-time. He was the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 through 1987.
No cause of death was revealed.
