HBCU First LOOK Film Festival

The festival will return to Howard University, Armour J. Blackburn University Center for an immersive celebration rooted in culture, storytelling, and empowerment.

Student Filmmaker Challenge

Building on the success of its inaugural event, the festival also announced its First LOOK Student Filmmaker Challenge is open for submissions.

Aspiring student filmmakers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) across the country are invited to seize the moment and submit their creative works.

Student filmmaker finalists will have their film showcased with the grand prize winner awarded $5,000 and internship.

Let’s Talk series

In addition to the HBCU First LOOK Student Film Challenge, the road to
the festival includes a Boot Camp Tour, which will stop by several HBCU campuses between March 24 and April 6. The festival will also release its Let’s Talk series this spring, which will premiere on HBCUgo.tv.

Let’s Talk series will consist of a collective of research-based, HBCU alumni expert discussions packaged in episodes that tackle topics from producing shows to marketing
films.

Each episode will serve as an academic resource to amplify students’ classroom curricula and offer innovative solutions to break into the film and media industry.
