Two River Theater seeks understudies for Jitney

Are you a non-equity, African American male actor between the ages of 20-60? If so, Two River Theater is looking for understudies for the upcoming play, Jitney, by the incomparable August Wilson.

You must live within one-hour from Two River Theater, located at 21 Bridge Ave., Red Bank. Rehearsals start Jan. 3, in NYC. If interested call, Jeremy Stoller at 732-345-1400 ext. 1825 or [email protected]. The play is directed by Ruben –Santiago Hudson.

Regular cabs will not travel to the Pittsburgh Hill District of the 1970s, and so the residents turn to each other. Jitney dramatizes the lives of men hustling to make a living as jitneys—unofficial, unlicensed taxi cab drivers. When the boss Becker’s son returns from prison, violence threatens to erupt. What makes this play remarkable is not the plot; Jitney is Wilson at his most real—the words these men use and the stories they tell form a true slice of life.
