17-year-old boxer Claressa T-Rex Shields made history in the 2012 Olympics on Thursday in London.

The Flint, Michigan resident is the first American to win the gold in the women’s middle weight boxing final, beating out Nadezda Torlopova of Russia.

This is the first year women’s boxing is on the roster in the Olympics, and Claressa T-Rex Shields win puts her in the history books.
