One decade ago, the world lost one of the most talented individuals to have graced this earth, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of TLC.

Lisa, the most outspoken and racy in the group, was killed in a car accident on April 25, 2002 in Honduras. She was 30 years old.

The Philadelphia-born rapper joined the group TLC in the 1990s under the management of Perri “Pebbles” Reid, an R&B singer herself and then-wife of LaFace Records co-founder Antonio “LA” Reid.

Left Eye, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas would release their debut album, Ooooooohhh … On the TLC Tip, the following year.

TLC was known for their trendy wear – saggy pants, hats to the back, over sized t-shirts with safe sex latex, and their blended sound of rap, pop, and R&B. They were crazy, sexy, and cool.

Left Eye was famously known for setting her boyfriend at the time, Andre Rison’s, home on fire, but by the time of her death she had huge hits with TLC including four number ones and 22 million albums sold.

Lisa had took the trip to Honduras for some healing and reflection. Her final days were chronicled by MTV in a documentary entitled The Last Days of Left Eye, which premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival in April 2007. In it, she spoke of her interests in numerology and yoga, as well as plans to build an educational center for Honduran children. The documentary also included the fatal car crash.

On the tenth anniversary of the Lisa’s death, surviving members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas candidly spike on the loss of their group mate and most of all, friend.

“The word anniversary means a celebration,” Watkins says in a statement. “For us her death will never be a celebration — it’s still something that hurts.”

“Lisa is our sister. You never get over losing a family member. We love her and we miss her and that isn’t ever going to change.” Watkins and Thomas are currently producing a new biopic for VH1. “This project is truly a dream come true for us,” Thomas explains

According to TMZ, the two have announced a reunion tour that would include Lisa into the show via footage.

The duo says they already have five major cities booked.
