On March 18, 2016, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. students and the director of curriculum and instruction, Sancha Gray, gave the students in Ghana a presentation on the Asbury Park School District’s theme, “Building A Brighter Future.”
Presentation on subjects
For instance, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. students created presentations on how their subject areas would help them in the near future.
Some students said by studying math they would be encouraged to become an engineer, computer scientist, financial banker, or architect.
Other students said by studying science they would be interested in becoming a paleontologist, meteorologist, or biologist. In addition, students said by studying history and language arts they would be inspired to study law and run for political office.
Ghana students
After the students were done with their presentations, Sancha Gray spoke to the students in Ghana about her role as the director of curriculum and instruction. She told the students in Ghana that as the director of curriculum and instruction she was helping put in place new programs involving the arts and music.
Gray also informed the Ghana students that she was overseeing the development of new curriculum in all subject areas that would help the students of the Asbury Park School District be college and career ready. Once Sancha Gray was done with her presentation she answered questions posed by the students in Ghana.
Some of their questions were:
How can you help students become successful?
How long is your work day?
What is the most difficult part about your job?
What is being done to help students get into college?
What are your hobbies?
How do you feel about the Ghana project? Do you think this is successful?
After the q and a, Sancha Gray informed the Ghana students on what a pleasure it was to speak to them and share their education experience with the students of the Asbury Park School District.
