What happened to Kenneka Jenkins? #JusticeForKenneka
The family of Kenneka Jenkins found dead inside a hotel in northwest suburban Rosemont on Sunday morning is seeking justice and answers.
Chicago, IL – The family of Kenneka Jenkins is seeking justice – hoping to have answers into the death of their loved one.
Kenneka Jenkins went missing
Jenkins was found dead inside a hotel in northwest suburban Rosemont on Sunday morning one day after she had gone missing.
She was discovered after an hours-long search and was pronounced dead at 12:48 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Jenkins’ mother, Tereasa Martin, said police told her Jenkins apparently let herself into the freezer while inebriated and died inside.
Surveillance video
Police are looking at surveillance video from the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which shows Kenneka’s last moves.
According to Martin and police, Jenkins left her house in the 2100 block of West Warren Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Friday to attend a party with friends in a hotel room at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel & Conference Center in Rosemont.
The teen was reported missing around 1:15 a.m. Saturday. Her sister said that she received a text message from Jenkins at about 1:30 a.m.
After being contacted by Rosemont police, hotel employees found her body early Sunday in a basement freezer. Police said her body was beyond resuscitation. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kenneka Jenkins cause of death
The cause of death still remains a mystery and preliminary autopsy results are expected to come down Wednesday.
Police do not suspect foul play at this point. But Kenneka’s family believes something doesn’t add up, as police try to explain how the woman wound up in a freezer.
“I know for a fact that she would have survived if they would have gotten on it sooner,” said Tereasa Martin, Jenkins’ mother.
“My message to the police is, could they tell me what happened to my daughter?” Jenkins’ friends said they had all been drinking and using drugs in one of the hotel rooms, police said.
