THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS MEET THE STUDENTS OF THE SOLID ROCK FOUNDATION SCHOOL IN GHANA AND MORE!

The League of Women Voters joined Mr. Wronko’s students from Asbury Park High School and Papa Williams’ Solid Rock Foundation School in Ghana students for an exciting session.

League of Women Voters presentation

Two programs that joined the Asbury Park School District worked together to deliver the best remote education possible. During this session, the League of Women Voters presented to students. They explained the voting challenges Americans have faced throughout U.S. history.

Helping to narrate the League’s presentation were Mr. Wronko’s students, Jaiden Tyler, Jazier Crawford, and Dain Salazar.

Additionally, to make the presentation more engaging, the facilitators assigned each student in Ghana a number. Each number represented specific characteristics from different periods in U.S. history that determined whether a person could vote.

When the presentation reached moments such as the American Civil War or the early 1900s, students whose numbers matched the characteristics of people allowed to vote during those eras stood up.

As the activity continued, and students saw how long it took for African AmericansAfrican Americans, women, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans to gain voting rights without facing racism and discrimination, every student in Ghana eventually stood up.
