Howard University and Netflix announce $5.4 million scholarship in honor of Chadwick Boseman
Netflix and Howard University have established a $5.4 million scholarship in honor of Chadwick Boseman, called The Chadwick A. Boseman Memorial Scholarship.

Chadwick Boseman’s legacy is continuing to be etched, this time with a new scholarship from his alma mater, Howard University.
Chadwick Boseman Memorial Scholarship
On Monday (October 4th), the historically black university announced the Chadwick A. Boseman Memorial Scholarship, established with the support of Boseman’s wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, and Netflix, the inaugural donor.
The $5.4 million scholarship will cover full tuition for selected incoming students in the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, which was renamed in earlier this year after the actor passed away from colon cancer in August 2020.
“It is with immense pleasure and deep gratitude that we announce the creation of an endowed scholarship in honor of alumnus Chadwick Boseman, whose life and contributions to the arts continue to inspire,” said Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, president of Howard University.
“This scholarship embodies Chadwick’s love for Howard, his passion for storytelling, and his willingness to support future generations of Howard students. I am thankful for the continuous support and partnership of Chadwick’s wife, Mrs. Simone Ledward-Boseman, and to Netflix for this important gift.
Recipients
The four recipients this year are freshman Sarah Long, sophomore Shawn Smith, junior Janee’ Ferguson, and senior Deirdre Dunkin.
The annual scholarship focuses on students who exemplify exceptional skills in the arts and who demonstrate financial need.
Boseman graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing and was an active alumnus in the years that followed.
