Florida woman arrested for reportedly pepper-spraying Black kids
Ada Anderson, 81, has been arrested and charged with three counts of felony battery after allegedly pepper-spraying two Black children and their mother in Ocala, Florida.
An 81-year-old Florida woman, Ada Anderson, has been arrested and charged with three counts of felony battery after allegedly pepper-spraying two Black children and their mother in Ocala, Florida.
Woman reportedly arrested pepper-spraying Black children
The incident occurred on May 30, when April Morant and her daughters, ages 3 and 6, were playing with bubbles in their driveway. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson approached the fence separating their properties and sprayed bear mace at the family while shouting racial slurs.
Morant, who moved into the neighborhood in November 2024, reported ongoing racial harassment from Anderson, including repeated verbal abuse.
“She tells us every day, like, an everyday occurrence, every day since we’ve been here, we don’t belong here and we are monkeys,” Morant told ClickOrlando. “And she calls us the N word. So, it’s always something. So, I know she’s doing whatever she can to make me move.”
Anderson was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 1.
GoFundMe created to protect family
Morant has since obtained a restraining order and launched a fundraiser to help her family relocate, citing concerns for their safety.
“Since Day One, our next-door neighbor has targeted us with nonstop racial harassment, screaming slurs from her porch, telling us we don’t belong in the neighborhood, and poisoning the air with her hate. Then recently, it got violent. She sprayed bear spray at me and my babies. My 3-year-old and 6-year-old were directly hit,” the GoFundMe reads.
At the date of this posting, the fundraiser has raised $3,000 out of its $35,000 goal.
